You may have heard how some surgeons like to play music while performing challenging medical operations. But have you ever heard of the patient being the one to put on the live show?
An amazing feat that took place during a brain surgery procedure in Italy was — for lack of a better term — mind-blowing.
Images shared by Paideia International Hospital show an alert patient playing saxophone as surgeons worked to remove a tumor from his brain successfully.
You might be thinking — why?
Well, so-called "awake surgeries" like this one allow surgeons to perform complex procedures on the brain while monitoring in real-time any effect on the patient's neurological functions.
In this case, his ability to play the saxophone.
Awake surgeries, such as this one, have been done before.
In 2020, a patient in London played violin during a similar brain operation. And in both cases, the patients reportedly recovered with their talents intact.
That's gotta be music to the surgeon's ears.
